Normal-ordering approximations and translational (non)invariance

Normal-ordering provides an approach to approximate three-body forces as effective two-body operators and it is therefore important tool in many-body calculations with realistic nuclear interactions. The corresponding neglect of certain terms the normal-ordered Hamiltonian known influence translational invariance, although magnitude this effect has not yet been systematically quantified. In work we study particular normal-ordering approximation applied a single harmonic-oscillator reference state. We explicate breaking invariance demonstrate error function model space parameters for $^4\rm{He}$ $^{16}\rm{O}$ by performing full no-core shell-model without three-nucleon forces. combine two different diagnostics better monitor invariance. While center-of-mass shown become potentially very large $^4\rm{He}$, also be much smaller convergence reached. These tools can easily implemented studies using other frameworks bases.
